26th biannual AKSE Conference Vienna 2013

The 26th biannual conference of the Association for Korean Studies in Europe (AKSE) was held in Vienna from July 6-9, 2013. The organizing team was headed by Professor Rudiger Frank, AKSE Secretary, Chair of East Asian Economy and Society and Head of the Department of East Asian Studies at the University of Vienna.

8th EastAsiaNet Research Workshop

September 15-16, 2011

EastAsiaNet is a network of leading European research schools with a well-developed social-science focus on East Asia, plus others that aspire to develop in this direction. It takes up issues that surpass the capacity of single institutions in training and in research. Ultimately, it contributes high-level expertise to a European perspective on Euro-Asia relations. The 8th EastAsia Research Workshop was hosted by the Department of East Asian Studies at the University of Vienna.

 

Korea and East Asia in a Changing Regional and Global Environment

April 28-29, 2011

 

The conference is part of a conference series titled “Korea and East Asia”. The first such conference took place in February 2009, under the topic “Korea and East Asia: Transformation of Socialist Systems”, conference volume published in January 2010. We now continue with a focus on East Asian Regionalism. Thus being part of a long-term effort will provide increased visibility and added value to the single conferences and the resulting

 

International Symposium: Exploring North Korean Arts

September 3-4, 2010

 

The symposium is organized around three core themes. The first is an introduction to North Korean art, including its function, its reception, and its connection to other spheres of society. We will next briefly discuss the question of exhibiting North Korean art, before moving to a few examples of North Korean art ranging from traditional brush painting to music, stamps, mosaics and illustrations in children’s books. This is an academic event; we will focus on facts and their scientific analysis. Even so, there are no taboo topics.

Korea and East Asia: International Relations and Options for a Regional Collective Security Mechanism

June 3-4, 2010

The conference is part of a conference series titled “Korea and East Asia”. We now continue with a focus on International Relations and a regional security mechanism in East Asia. Korea and East Asia: Transformation of Socialist Systems

February 13-14 2009

The two-day conference was the first event of the (bi)annual conference series “Korea and East Asia” organized by the Chair of East Asian Economy and Society, East Asian Institute of the University of Vienna. The first meeting took place on 13-14 February 2009 and focused on the transformation of socialist systems.
