Online Orientation Meeting for new EcoS Students

21.08.2020

To get you started for the winter term and the beginning of your studies, we warmly invite all EcoS new students to join us for an online orientation day.

The online orientation day takes place on September 15, 2020 from midday 12 to 2 pm. During the event, we will introduce the team behind EcoS, answer questions on the curriculum and all technical aspects of class enrolment and give you further directions for the semester ahead. The student representatives will also join us to answer your questions on students’ life at the University of Vienna.

How to access the virtual meeting:

  • We will hold the event online via BigBlueButton (BBB). You will find the link via our online study platform Moodle.
  • You will be able to login with your student ID and password. Then, you will see a course called “EcoS Students’ Lounge” in your Moodle’s Dashboard, where you find the link to the BBB-meeting.
  • To join the event, you are asked to enable your microphone and camera which you are welcome to test beforehand.
  • During the event, you can either engage in the discussion directly or post questions and comments in the chat that we are happy to answer as well.

The “EcoS Student’s Lounge” will be at your disposal for student engagement throughout the whole semester. In order to have access to this virtual room, please send us an e-mail with your full name and student ID to ecos[at]univie.ac.at.

What do you need to prepare for the orientation meeting?

In order to get to know each other, we ask you to prepare a short video of yourself. This is a voluntary task, but we consider that it is a great way to familiarize with all your colleagues during a semester that will be taught mostly virtually. The video should be no longer than 1 minute. In the video, please tell us:

  • a little bit about yourself,
  • what you like about Vienna, or – if you did not arrive yet – what are looking forward to in Vienna, and
  • what was your favourite book of the last year? Ideally, but not necessarily, the book concerns question of the East Asian region; this is meant as a reading recommendation for all of us.
  • Please send the video to us until Friday, September 4 (10:00 pm) via ACOnet File Sender We will show the videos during the online event. For more instructions on how to record and upload your video, click the following link.

With our best wishes,

The EcoS Team
