What?: How does advocacy work when dealing with US lawmakers on sanctions and a state such as the DPRK? How can education shift perceptions & help protect humanitarian channels? And how does the intersection between advocacy, education, & engagement create potential for peacebuilding breakthroughs?

Around the world, time and again, engagement has proven to be a cornerstone for changing perspectives and fostering understanding. In the Korean conflict people-to-people exchanges have led to shifts in ideas on all sides. By building mutual understanding through experience, narratives of conflict transform into narratives of peace. Such transformations and the building of trust takes time. The longevity of Quaker engagement with the DPRK demonstrates the importance of seeing a long-term vision. The power of coalitions—between civil society practitioners, academics, and the public—is essential to amplify voices calling for engagement.

Join Jennifer Deibert to reflect on lessons from the past and envision future possibilities to create the frameworks needed for lasting peace in East Asia.
