Kate Walker, MA (Hons) MA

Kate Walker is External Lecturer at the Chair of East Asian Economy and Society. She previously worked as Education Adviser for the British Council (the UK's international organisation for cultural relations) where she convened courses for the organisation's staff around the world. She has also worked for the University of Edinburgh, University of Strathclyde and Southampton Solent University where she sought to widen access to higher education among under-represented groups.

Kate is currently completing her PhD in Music and holds an MA in World Music Studies and an MA (Hons) in American Studies. Her research and publications focus on the practice of kumi-daiko (ensemble taiko drumming) in the United Kingdom. Kate pays particular attention to the ways in which players in Europe form communities of practice, the use of kumi-daiko as an instrument of soft power by nation states, and gendered practices.
