A notable global trend was the defeat of many ruling parties, attributed to economic challenges like inflation. In the U.S., Republicans capitalized on economic discontent with a protectionist "America First" agenda.

The partnership between Donald Trump and Elon Musk also stands out, raising concerns about concentrated power and its impact on global security and diplomacy. For instance, Vice President-elect J.D. Vance suggested the U.S. might withdraw from NATO if the EU continues regulating Musk's platform X.
