Fire the Speech Writers: An East German's Perspective on President Park's Dresden Speech.

South Korean President Park Geun-hye gave a speech in Dresden on March 28. Much has been written about it, mostly with a focus on her proposals vis-a-vis Pyongyang.

Prof. Frank adds a few thoughts from a different angle, with perhaps surprising results for those who are not too familiar with Germany and its history. His main point is that the speech reveals a severe lack of knowledge of the East German context, and thus sends signals to North Korea that might be unintended, but are nevertheless powerful.
